Honoring the Legacy of Laver Bariu
Honoring the Past - Laver Bariu
The Festival will honor the extraordinary legacy of Laver Bariu, the legendary Albanian clarinet virtuoso, whose music and artistry helped preserve and elevate Albania’s rich musical heritage. Born in Përmet in 1926, Bariu grew up in a musical family. Experience the evocative sounds of his music in the video above and join us in honoring his legacy. His family will be at the festival as we honor his memory and his music.
Shaping the Future - Ylli Zhaveli
We are pleased to present Ylli Zhaveli as a featured performer at the festival. Ylli's performance will pay homage to Laver Bariu's music. Listen to the sounds of Ylli as he plays with Queen Teuta in New York City in the above video. In his own words: "...duke interpretuar vepra të vendit tim, dhe të muzikës me të cilën jam rritur, e duke e përcjellë atë muzikë tek publiku përmes instrumentit të klarinetit, ishte një ndjenjë e jashtëzakonshme."
Fan S. Noli Legacy Award
Dhimitraq Demiri
The Fan S. Noli Library & Cultural Center is honored to present Dhimitraq Demiri, founder of Valle Tona, with the Fan S. Noli Legacy Award. His dedication to Albanian traditional dance has helped inspire generations of young people and continues to play a vital role in preserving and passing on our cultural heritage.
We invite you to share photos/videos of Valle Tona, or share a short (20-second) video message for Dhimitri using the Dropbox link below. Your contributions help us celebrate his dedication to Albanian culture and dance and preserve his legacy at the Fan S. Noli Library and Cultural Center.
