The Fan S. Noli Library and Cultural Center is dedicated to preserving and promoting Albanian culture, language and identity in the Greater Boston area and beyond. Named after the revered scholar, statesman and spiritual leader Fan Noli, our center serves as a hub for cultural events, educational programs, community gatherings and historical preservation.
Meet Fan Noli: Albania’s Renaissance Man
Writer, scholar, diplomat, priest, and even prime minister, Fan Noli's talents and vocations were broad. Born in 1882, he sparked a revolution in politics, religion and culture, founding the Albanian Orthodox Church in America and helping shape Albania’s national identity.
Noli didn’t just make history — he wrote it, translated it, and even sang it (he studied at the New England Conservatory). A Harvard graduate and a champion of language, music, and justice, he brought the spirit of Albania to the world stage.
Though his time as prime minister was brief, his impact was timeless. Noli spent his final years in the U.S., still writing, teaching, and inspiring future generations. A true force of nature, Fan Noli’s legacy lives on in his writings, translations and music, much of which are available in our library.

Discover the life and enduring works of Naum Prifti (1932–2023), a colossus of Albanian literature and an influential Albanian-American voice. On Sunday, June 28, 2026, Fan Noli Cultural Center will explore his fascinating journey from his medical education to a Philology graduate from the University of Tirana, eventually writing nearly 100 diverse works across scripts, children's books, and plays. His insightful short stories, which brilliantly depicted the harsh daily realities of post-war Albania, have earned his work frequent comparisons to the great masters for their nonconformity.
The afternoon will feature presentations on his literary legacy, a special screening of animated films, bilingual readings in English and Albanian, and delightful conversations for all ages. You can also test your knowledge of Prifti’s fables and characters through an interactive trivia session. The perfect finale to a literary afternoon: the comforting nostalgia of traditional Albanian cooking.
Learn more about his background through the New York Times Obituary and discover the cultural honors detailing his legacy at the Albania’s Academy of Science commemoration ceremony.

From the Heart is a program that promotes cultural pride and wellbringing through storytelling. This initiative brings together college students and immigrant elders to preserve stories of resilience, migration, and cultural heritage. By providing a culturally sensitive, community-based and nurturant environment for emotional expression, we aim to strengthen pride, foster belonging, and thus enhance the well-being of our community. The program will pair members of the elderly population with high school/college students, in conversation, about their personal migration experiences. These conversations will be captured on video, creating a living archive to share with the community and beyond.
If you or someone you know is interested in telling their story, please see flyer here and complete this form.
If you are a student interested in helping interview the storytellers, please see flyer here and complete this form.
